Why is Africa less developed than Europe or the East?

Rupert Roo asked:

I don’t get why there is no African equivalent of Van Gogh, Nietzsche, Da Vinci, Newton or Mozart.
And please don’t reference:
1.Different values because there’s a big difference between the Sears Tower and a grass hut.
2.Temperature differences or an agrarian diet unless you’ve got something really cool to say.
3.Colonialism, because this was just the start of the overwhelming advances made by said regions. In short; Africa was already behind the 8 ball at this point.
I realize that from mitochondrial DNA it is basically proven that life began in Africa. But why did culture, technology and art stagnate there since the inception of civilization? And yeah I know that there is a great variety of African culture, art etc. But can you really compare that to Mozart? Really?
I’ve read about Maslow but I’ve also visited South Africa and there’s no shortage of food there. I’ve also heard it’s not too hard to get a cheeseburger in Cairo. There’s plenty of food in lots of Africa and has been for a long time. I don’t think it was too easy to get food during a Russian winter in the 1800s but somehow Dostoevsky managed to do great things.
Edit:I just finished reading “Guns, Germs, and Steel” and although it was very well received and recommended by a good friend, I don’t buy it’s explanations. No other agenda than that one.

What do you guys think about this idea for a book?

Claudia asked:

There is a group of teenagers that are in Mexico, and then 9 tsunamis occur (they survive to all of them), but then the last wave(10th) is a huge mega-tsunami bigger than the Empire State Building, and the Sears Towers in Chicago. With all these waves the rest of the people die. But the group of teens in Mexico stay underwater for 1000 years, and then they survive. Later they will realize that they’re special (they are like a new specie of humans), and their mission is to start a new world….

Honestly, do you think that this book could make a lot of money?

Do you think that this book could be a good idea for a movie?

Santa Claus(e)-The pianist. asked:

I don’t know why but I have the feeling something big could happen now or at any moment,I live in Chicago and the Sears Tower is still standing tall in the sky,I don’t want anything to happen to it or I don’t want any airplane crashing into it or some other building that is a target,I hope nothing happens this Thursday,if anything happens I want it to be the return of Christ,I will keep a close eye on the news to hear if anything unexpected happened that the public is unaware of,so far nothing has happened and I want to keep it that way!!!!!!!!!!

Why does it seem the age of having the biggest or the fastest is over with?

Starchild asked:

It seems like the 1960’s and 70’s saw things like the building of the tallest buildings i.e. Sears Tower,World Trade Center…the fastest passenger planes..the concorde…the biggest pass jets,,the B-747…amazing over the top events like multiple trips to the Moon. We had cars with massive high powered engines…And now we have kind of taken two steps back and it seems everything is sort of just bland. And anything will do.

Tyler Durden’s philosophy on life?

masterofjkd asked:

I’m just curious but for the people that have watched Fight Club, has his philosophy on life and anti consumerist view changed your life for the better, and also a side question, how many of you would want the vision of Tyler Durden’s world to come true, y’know the description: In the world I see – you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You’ll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You’ll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you’ll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway.
Sounds pretty cool to me, going back to a simple times none of this commerical bullshit, but who else thinks this?

Do you think historical figures have been neglected at the expense of celebrities?

Jonathan asked:

Michael Jordan was a talented athlete and his statue does look cool in front of the United Center, but I think a statue that would prove far more symbolic of the city (given how segregated it still is) would be of Fred Hampton due to his efforts to break the fierce separation and draw people together toward the common goal of economic equality and legal justice for all people given the terrible living conditions of some people during the 1960s. He set up breakfast programs in Chicago as well as free clothing and food drives along with helping homeless acquire shelter and set up free medical clinics. Just the word free and medical in the same sentence is amazing given how the medical industry chokes the money out of the patients these days. Anyway, Michael Jordan was a cool athlete, but I think a statue of Fred Hampton in front of the Sears Tower would by far much more greatly establish what the city of Chicago has been through on the deeper level of survival and endurance through harsh times which to me is far more meaningful then some basketball player flipping in shots, scoring points, and dunking on people and winning trophies. No matter how exciting and entertaining it is to watch, in no way does this compare or equate or surpass the efforts of the Black Panthers to improve people’s lives economically during a time when the mass government and police authorities hated and murdered them and oppressed people. So in short, Michael Jordan’s statue is really cool, but I think Fred Hampton deserves a statue of his own to celebrate his efforts in improving the outlook of the city for the inhabitants during a time of upheaval and injustice: anger translated into positive action!
