We are not “officially” boyfriend/girlfriend but we’ve been dating for over a month and just about there. The situation is unique, since she is from Japan and doesn’t have a US ID and is 20 yrs old (so we can’t go to any bars or clubs). Also we are going to downtown Chicago, and she has never gone there before, so obviously, I want it to be a special and fun time for her

Thus far I have ideas to go ice skating at Millenium Park (I have asked her already if she would like ice skating and she said yes), then eat at, and see fireworks at Navy Pier. Also I would like to take her to the top of the Sears Tower.

Does this sound good so far? Any other ideas that you may suggest? Thanks!

Hello Everybody,

I’ll be visiting downtown Chicago with my wife and a few friends at the end of April for about 3-4 days. I’ll be staying by Superior and La Salle. What all do you recommend and what are the “must do’s” while we’re there? We won’t have any sort of transportation, so we either walk, catch a cab or use public transportation. We are going a White Sox game too, so wondering what’s the best way to get there. Also, wanted some opinions on which observatory to go to; John Hancock or the Sears Tower, or neither? How about good ol’ restaurants in that area; looking for some locals with good cooking only found in Chicago. How’s the nightlife look, anything I should check out or just go hoping to see what we like? Any good bars with good drinks and live music, etc? Any other ideas are appreciated.

but I saw on the weather channel show, “It could happen tomorrow,” they were doing a scenario where a powerful f4/f5 tornado hits downtown Chicago. They said if it hits tall skyscrapers like the Sears Tower, it would shadder the windows, but the buidling itself would remain standing. They said if you’re inside the building and can’t make it to the bottom floor, you might be safe taking cover in the middle of the building on an upper floor, and you might live to tell about it.

That surprises me cause it contradicts what I read; i thought a powerful tornado of that maginitude would destroy anything in its path including a big skyscraper.

So which is true? Would it destroy the skyscraper? or would the skyscraper remain standing if it was hit by hit?

Thanks dessy! When I asked here about downtown Chicago fireworks a couple years ago, I was told they do theirs on July 3rd and not 4th… anyone else know about this???
and BTW, Sears Tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world, so I didn’t think anything else would be in the way
